VECTRA VXR TUNING
The Vectra VXR has a 2.8 litre engine. The turbocharged engine unit shares many of these features with the two six-cylinder naturally aspirated engines (2.8 and 3.6 litre), which are also part of the new fully aluminium range, used worldwide by General Motors. As well as a classic cylinder angle of 60 degrees and overhead camshafts driven by dual chains, common features with the 24-valve unit include variable valve control and a four-bearing crankshaft made from micro-alloyed forged steel - a material also commonly used in racing engines.
The 2.8 litre unit provides 90 percent of its 330 Nm (245 lb ft) maximum torque at only 1500 rpm. This top figure in its displacement class is then available over a wide range of 1800 to 4500 rpm. The engine’s driving performance is equally impressive. Early Vectra VXR models left the factory with 255 bhp and the later model years have had a revised management programme installed at factory to give 280 bhp.
GCAP's bespoke custom ECU remaps will tweak the fuelling, boost, ignition timing etc to boost the power to around 295-300bhp with up to 400lbft of torque without any hardware modifications.
At this stage we now address the exhaust system. By removing the restrictive cats and fit a larger bored free flowing exhaust system, we again open up room for more power. Joined again by a remap we tend to see around 300-310bhp and 400lbft torque.
At this stage we focus on cooling the intake temperatures. At stage 2 the car will be struggling to keep the air cool via the standard intercooler, therefore after prolonged use the car's bhp will begin to fall. To ensure a consistent performance figure, we swap the standard intercooler for an uprated front mounted cooler. We do not see any extra bhp gained at this stage however the power is consistant time and time again, without the power loss due to heat.
At this stage we replace the turbo with an Insignia VXR assembly. Tied in with the full turbo back exhaust, front mounted large intercooler and remap we see 330-340bhp and 420-435lbft. To ensure the fuel delivered to the engine is the optimum flow, we upgrade the injectors to Insignia VXR units.
At this stage we replace the turbo with a Hybrid assembly made exclusively for GCAP PERFORMANCE. Tied in with the full turbo back exhaust, front mounted large intercooler and remap we see 350-390bhp and 450-480lbft. To ensure the fuel delivered to the engine is the optimum flow, we upgrade the injectors to Insignia VXR units.
SUSPENSION & TRANSMISSION
We can offer a variety of suspension and handling upgrades spec'd to your exact needs, whether it be fast road or a full on track set up.
We can offer lowering springs, coil over kits, uprated engine mounts and bushes.
We also offer a variety of clutch and flywheel set ups ranging from stage 1 - stage 3. Single mass flywheel conversion, uprated clutches, 4 and 6 paddle clutches and uprated covers. To help aid put the power dowe we also recommend the addition of a limited slip differential at any level of tune.
