The Corsa VXR was released from the factory with a 1.6 turbo charged engine producing 192ps and 230nm torque (189bhp and 170lbft).

At GCAP Performance we have several levels of tune to help make this pocket rocket that little bit faster.

GCAP's bespoke custom ECU remaps will tweak the fuelling, boost, ignition timing, etc to boost the power to around 205bhp with up to 220lbft of torque without any hardware modifications.

We advise at this stage the addition of a panel filter or cone filter to allow the vehicle to breath better.

One of the biggest flaws in this engine's set up are the injectors. Before going any further with tuning the standard injectors must be swapped out for a larger flowing set up. Depending on the level of tune you wish to achieve we offer either 395cc or 650cc.

At this stage we now address the exhaust system. By removing the restrictive system and fit a larger bored free flowing exhaust system, we again open up room for more power. The standard system is very restrictive, so by fitting a 2.5inch-3inch exhaust along with sports cat or decat system, followed by a ECU calibration and map, power becomes boosted to 230bhp and up to 230lbft of torque.

At this stage we focus on cooling the intake temperatures. At stage 2 the car will now be struggling to keep the air cool via the standard intercooler, therefore after prolonged use the car's bhp will begin to fall.

To ensure a consistent performance figure, we swap the standard intercooler for an uprated front mounted cooler. Combined with a map tweak we see figures in the 240-245bhp and up to 260lbft torque.

At stage 3 we also suggest customers opt for an uprated actuator to ensure a more consistent boost in the higher rpms. We also recommend an uprated recirc valve. The factory ones begin to split at this power so an all metal bodied recirc is far more beneficial. We also suggest customers swap their spark plugs for a higher heat tolerant plug.

At this stage we recommend customers switch out the standard internals for a full forged set up.

At stage 4 we now remove the standard K03 turbo and replace with a K04 from an Astra VXR.

The K04 allows for a better air flow, combined with a new induction kit, 80mm maf and remap we see around 280-300bhp and up to 285lbft.

The next thing we address is the camshaft set up. We swap out the standard cams which have a small 7.3mm lift for an uprated fast road or race spec variation. We can offer both inlet and exhaust cams which allow the valves to open higher and longer increasing the power in the midrange as well as top end.

For reliability purposes we recommend to uprage the valve springs to a stronger double valve spring.

With a tweak on the remap we expect to see around 310-325bhp and upto 285lbft.

Switching from the standard KO4 turbo to a hybrid Turbo. This unit will be able to flow more air and hold better boost than the stock unit, while maintaining turbo reliability and a long service life. We can offer K04 or K06 hybrid turbo which include:

  • High flow Billet K06 large trim Compressor Wheel

  • Re-profiled compressor housing

  • Modified turbine wheel blades to reduce backpressure

  • Lightening of turbine wheel for quicker response

  • 360 degree thrust kit

  • Unit fully blueprinted to motorsport tolerances

At this level we expect to see around the 330-350bhp and 280lbft torque.

To go beyond this point we would add a Garrett set up with a tubular manifold, larger injectors, larger MAF, all new water and oil fittings and a new ECU calibration. We have achieved over 400bhp at this level.

We offer a full forging service for the Corsa VXR engine.

These engines are prone to piston failure, therefore we recommend that you forge the engine swapping out the standard pistons and rods for a much stronger and more durable alternative.

We favour the Wossner pistons paired with PEC conrods, along with piston rings, big end bearings, top and bottom end gaskets and a head skim. It should be noted that this service is for healthy running Corsa VXRs. Should you encounter piston failure then it is likely the engine will need removing from the body of the car, the block machined to allow for oversized pistons and re-assembled. If piston failure is caught early and the bores are unmarked, then a light hone will be more than adequate.

We can offer a variety of suspension and handling upgrades spec'd to your exact needs, whether it be fast road or a full on track set up.

We can offer lowering springs, coil over kits, RARBs, FARBs, Uprated engine mounts and bushes.

We also offer a variety of clutch and flywheel set ups ranging from stage 1 - stage 3. Single mass flywheel conversion, uprated clutches, 4 and 6 paddle clutches and uprated covers. To help aid put the power dowe we also recommend the addition of a limited slip differential at any level of tune.
